Inspired By vs. Offering:
What makes our candles actual offerings?

You have likely seen many small businesses selling deity candles. But very few act as real offerings to those deities. What do I mean by “real?” The majority of deity candles are simply inspired by specific deities. For instance, a candle inspired by Persephone could be dyed the color of a pomegranate with a scent to match. Maybe even adorned with garnet crystals to represent pomegranate seeds. Makes perfect sense. Those elements are part of her story. But here’s the point: what is it about those elements that make them offerings to her?

The purpose of an offering is to provide energy to the deity. Were those choices made to give Persephone energy to use? After all, that’s really what offerings are about: gifting the deity energy to enable them to thrive and, in the case of petitions, energy to do the very thing we’re requesting!

If the candle’s elements are chosen merely to represent the deity, that candle may or may not produce the energy the deity needs. Silver Moon Offerings chooses elements based on their energy correspondences to fuel the deity’s work. This energy comes from the color, scent, and any adornments decorating the candle.

Deity-Specific Offerings Without Correspondence

If you’re well-versed in correspondences, you may wonder why some adornments or scents were chosen for candles that don’t seem to match the energy you would assume that deity needs. (This is the case with many demons.) Without giving away too many trade secrets, that can be explained by simple deity/demon preference. We all have our favorite things – types of music, food, hobbies, etc. All these favorites give us our own unique positive energy. It’s why you feel like dancing when a favorite song is played!

The research that goes into finding these correspondences – especially the favorites – is what makes our candles offerings and sets our candles apart from all others.
